NNA - The Ministry of Culture announces the start of receiving applications for nominations for the Oscar Award in the Foreign Language Film category for the year 2025, starting from 08/13/2024 until 09/06/2024. Those wishing to participate can submit their applications during official working hours to the Ministry of Culture - Joint Administrative Service at the UNESCO Palace - Beirut.
Mechanism of the Committee in Charge of Selecting the Film Nominated to Represent Lebanon in the 97th Oscar
After a committee of specialists and experts in acting, production and film directing has been selected, which will undertake the process of selecting the Lebanese film qualified to represent Lebanon in the 97th Oscar, this committee will hold a preliminary meeting during which the criteria required for selecting the film will be agreed upon and consistent with the eligibility approved by the Oscar.
In the next stage, the nominated films are presented and attended by the committee members, where a Google form is filled out to vote on the films in an objective manner, after which a meeting is held in the presence of all committee members during which opinions are reviewed and the weaknesses and strengths of each film are discussed, in order to select the film eligible to represent Lebanon in the 97th Academy Awards.
Eligibility criteria for nomination for the Oscar in the Foreign Language Film category for the year 2025
1- Country of production
The film must have been produced outside the United States, and must be in a language other than English. If there is a dialogue in English, it must not exceed 50% of the film's dialogue
2- Release and screening date
The film must have been screened in the country of production continuously for a period of no less than seven days, during the period between October 1 of the previous year and September 30 of the current year.
3- Submission
Each country can submit only one film, and the film will be selected by a specialized local committee
4- Film format and length
Or 70mm The film must be in a format acceptable for screening at the Academy, such as 35
The film must be long enough to be considered a full-budget film, usually no less than 40 minutes long
